Your First Brazilian Wax in Las Cruces: What to Expect
Nervous about your first Brazilian wax? Our Brazilian wax Las Cruces guide covers prep, what happens during your visit, aftercare, and when to rebook.
Thinking about booking your first Brazilian wax? First of all, congrats on being curious. Second, take a deep breath. A lot of people feel a little nervous before their first appointment, and that's completely normal. The good news is that knowing what to expect takes most of the mystery (and the worry) out of it.
Here's your friendly, no-surprises guide to getting a Brazilian wax in Las Cruces: how to prep, what actually happens on the table, how to take care of your skin afterward, and when to come back.
How to Prep for Your First Brazilian Wax
A little prep goes a long way toward a smoother, more comfortable wax. Here's what we recommend:
Let it grow to about 1/4 inch
Wax needs something to grab onto. Aim for hair that's about 1/4 inch long, roughly the size of a grain of rice. If you've been shaving, that usually means putting the razor down for a couple of weeks. If your hair is much longer than that, no worries. We can trim it at the start of your appointment.
Exfoliate a day or two before
Gently exfoliate the area a day or two ahead of time. This clears away dead skin so the wax can do its job. Keep it gentle, though. No scrubbing like you're cleaning a cast iron pan.
Skip caffeine and alcohol right before
That pre-appointment latte or "liquid courage" can make your skin feel more sensitive. Save them for after, and maybe treat yourself once you're done.
Wear loose, comfy clothing
Think soft cotton, sweatpants, or a flowy skirt. Your skin will thank you on the ride home, especially if it's a warm Las Cruces afternoon.
What Happens During Your Appointment
When you arrive at our studio at 506 S Main St, Suite 238, we'll get you settled in. Your esthetician will walk you through the process and answer any questions. Seriously, ask anything. There are no weird questions here.
From there, it goes something like this:
- Getting comfortable: You'll undress from the waist down and relax on the table. Your esthetician has seen it all and is focused on doing great work, not judging.
- Cleansing and trimming: The area is cleaned and trimmed if needed, so the wax can grip the hair properly.
- Waxing in small sections: Wax is applied and removed one small area at a time. Working in sections keeps things quick and precise.
- Finishing touches: Any stray hairs are tidied up, and a soothing product is applied to calm the skin.
Will it sting? A bit, yes. Most people find that each pull is over in a second, and the anticipation is often worse than the wax itself. Breathing slowly and steadily really does help.
Your first visit is booked as a 60-minute appointment, which gives plenty of time to go at a comfortable pace and talk through everything. Bare Cat is veteran-owned (U.S. Army), and your service is performed by an NM licensed esthetician. You can see all the details on our Brazilian wax in Las Cruces page.
Brazilian Wax Aftercare: The First 48 Hours
Good Brazilian wax aftercare helps your skin stay calm and smooth. Freshly waxed skin is a little more sensitive than usual, so for the first 24 to 48 hours, try to avoid:
- Hot tubs, saunas, and steamy baths
- Tight clothing like skinny jeans or snug leggings
- Heavy workouts that mean lots of sweat and friction
- Sun exposure on the waxed area, including tanning
Stick with breathable fabrics and let your skin rest. It's the perfect excuse for a cozy night in.
Keep ingrown hairs away
After a few days, start gently exfoliating the area a couple of times a week. This helps prevent ingrown hairs by keeping new hair from getting trapped under the surface as it grows back.
Want a little extra pampering?
Our Vajacial is a $45 add-on, a post-wax treatment for the bikini area. It's a nice way to give your skin some extra love right after your wax.
How Often Should You Rebook?
For the smoothest results, plan to come back every 4 to 6 weeks. Hair grows in cycles, and staying on a regular schedule helps keep your appointments quicker and more comfortable over time.
Bonus: rebooking within 6 weeks is also easier on your wallet.
